This is one of two lion figures, carved in coral limestone and dated by the National Museum of the Maldives to c. 8th-9th centuries CE. The figure is presented seated on its haunches with pays raised pointing outward toward the viewer. It is carved in relief, and the back of this was likely part of a structure. No information about its original prominence is available.
