Coral stone casket

This coral stone casket carved in the shape of a round stupa was found during the excavation of a dagaba (stupa) to the east of the Genmiskiyy (GNI-DDM-1) on the island of Fuavahmulah, Gnaviyani Atoll. Its discovery there reflects the existence of a Buddhist site in the area before the conversion of the island to Islam. It has been dated by the National Museum of the Maldives to c. the 7th – 9th centuries CE.
